Character
Name: Venat
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon point: End of Endwalker
CRAU?: No
Age: >12,000
History: As Venat, as Hydaelyn.
Personality: Venat is kind, caring, warm, and compassionate, with a deep abiding love of people as a whole. She is also iron-willed and absolutely committed, having seen through not only the destruction of her own world and people but also 12 millennia of lonely misery as she shepherded mankind to a goal she believed, but didn't know for fact, it could achieve. For her choices, both killing her own people and creating a new, short, painful life for those who emerged after, she feels deep guilt -- she openly acknowledges that her actions held no justice or kindness, and asks for no forgiveness nor mercy.
She began her life as a scholar, and still maintains an educated curiosity about the world and its workings, but she only truly blossomed into herself after her efforts to discern the laws and rules of life convinced her that that all things, especially people, are amazingly improbably miracles. If it can be imagined, she says, it can be achieved. In service of this belief she became a traveler, roaming her world, aiding others, and stoking that powerful love for it and its people in particular that guided her actions and gave her strength to keep going.
Venat acknowledges that suffering is an inevitable part of life, and must be faced rather than escaped or hidden from, but she also believes wholeheartedly in mankind's ability to find their path through it and emerge on the other side all the stronger, buoyed by the joy and light they find amidst it all.
At this particular canonpoint, however, Venat is deeply, profoundly exhausted. She has carried her burden for twelve lonely, agonizing millennia, never faltering but ever awaiting the day when she could last put it down and move on -- to a final rest, in whatever form that would take. Though that day had finally come for her, unexpectedly continuing to be alive will mean struggling with that exhaustion until she finds the strength and the drive to overcome it and continue on.
The Ancients were a weird people thanks to their unending lives and incredible powers, but they considered Venat weird in turn; she defied convention regularly, ignoring the customs of wearing a mask in the service of anonymity and refusing to return to the star upon retiring from the Seat of Azem. Then as now, she moved with utter conviction in what she felt and what she believed in. She also has a mischievous streak, and a capacity to gently tease others not often seen in her people.
Interestingly, but apparently entirely in keeping with other Azems, she's far more fond of personal battle and conflict than most, enjoying challenges immensely and finding appeal in even the dark places where sinister secrets hide. Enduring her power is one of the few ways to earn her familiar's approval.
Powers and abilities:
Chosen faction: Sylph.
Suitability: A high-fantasy, low-tech game you say? Sure, XIV has some magitek, but Caldera is pretty much entirely within Venat's expectations and understandings; she might as well be in Eorzea. In the TDM she's already discovered a lot of parallels and similarities, with enough differences and questions to intrigue her. She's gonna fit in just fine.
